Forested landscapes may appear in two ways: the landscape with large coverage, and the portrait of the tree. Forest landscape can be photographed from a point higher, and the portrait of a tree from thicket. On large field angle images, the theme is similar to landscapes. You must choose the right time, good light, look for a higher position and use a wide angle lens. It is important to choose an appropriate foreground because exactly that portion of the tree or branch that enters the frame is specific to this kind of landscape. Do not forget the possibility of shooting panoramas.

How to realize an image effect with a tree? The answer is so diverse, on as many species of trees exist. Forest hides a multitude of subjects and possible themes from which you can choose something suitable. Telephoto can help much in this regard. Find something that catches the eye, like a tree trunk with strange shapes, or a ray of light falling through the branches, or an element whose place is not in the forest. On trees, with special bark (palm, birch) you can shoot the tree trunk, at weeping willow you can photograph the branches, and to species with strange shapes, forms should be in the spotlight.

On ordinary trees, good photos can be those in counter-light, with rays that filter through the leaves and at tall trees where they reach up to heaven. You can do portraits and panoramas with the bottom of the tree trunk, but also toppled trees or rotted. Even the roots may be the subject of an interesting composition of the forest landscape.

Geometric distortion of ultra-wide lens, will be strong, to trees of the edges. These can be avoided by using a telephoto lens or standard lens, but are not so disturbing at nature photography. For photographing trees and forests the perfect season is late autumn. Color madness, humid days or sunny days, offers many possibilities inspired photographers. In sunlight can be photograph mountains clothed in bright colors and on fog can be done portraits of trees, or you can find other subjects in pastel colors.

Other forest landscape photography tips:

In low light, automatic setting would certainly choose a higher ISO value. Instead, use a fixed value of ISO 100. You can compensate for longer exposure pulse, keeping the camera on a tree, or better, with a tripod.

Portraits of trees require a reduced depth of field, which can be achieved (partially) only with open aperture and maximum focal length. On DSLR cameras, this problem does not exist, and at a higher focal length (200mm), even with average aperture, the background can be blurred.However, an aperture of f.56 is recommended.

Strong contrasts of light as the shadow of the thick woods, heavily tests your camera. Think about this when choosing and forest landscapes, and try to shoot only in bright areas, or only in shaded areas. If you decided on a ray of light that slips through the thicket, calculate burned areas as well as dark ones. These are not annoying to this abstract landscape.
